Gnome

Gnome

Installing Gnome

You can install the individual parts of Gnome, but I chose to set up higher-level packages that include the basic Gnome stuff. I will list them here, and underneath any extra packages that I chose to install after being prompted by dselect. I accepted all of the recommended/required packages.

I installed the following packages:

Allowing root login

By default, when Gnome is installed, the root user cannot log in as a securtity measure. I don't really want this, so I edited the /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file so that AllowRoot was set to true. You may find life easier if you install the nedit package now that you have a window manager.
